Chicago South

Sept 30, 2010. It is time to leave Chicago, these first pictures are parting shots our last day. We head South out of Dusabal Harbor to Calumet Harbor to go South on the Calumet River. Some boats go South on the river through downtown Chicago, but because of the height of our boat, we cannot clear the lowest bridge of 17 feet. We will go on the Calumet, which will join the Illinois River. We will go to Joliet, and stay on the wall tonight. We continue on the Illinois River to Heritage Harbor marina for the night of Oct 1 and took a day off on Oct 2. We will continue on the Illinois South to Henry's Marina wall, to Tall Timbers Marina in Havana, Il. On October 5 we will anchor with our Canadian friends Wayne and Ruth aboard "High Spirits" at Buckhorn Island on the Illinois River. October 6th we go to Grafton Harbor Marina, in Grafton, Il and again take a day off on the 7th. On the 8th we travel to Hoppie's on the Upper Mississippi. This is a series of barages lashed together. The current is very swift on the Mississippi, about 4-5 knots which requires a boat to pass the tie-up and come back against the current. Nancy did a great job of positioning the boat. We tied up for the evening with friends and "Fern" gave us the briefing for what lay ahead. We continued South on the Upper Mississippi to an ancorage in Little Diversion Channel. Here we anchored with our Canadian Friends Wayne and Ruth and our new Australian friends Malcom and Jenny, aboard "Zoo Keeper". October 10th we go to the Ohio River and stay on the barage at Paducha, KY again with Wayne, Ruth, Malcom, and Jenny. We all then went to Green Turtle Bay Marina, on the Cumberland River. We stay here for three days and rested. I am sad to say our beloved kitty "Cocoa" left the boat and we could not find her. We placed posters with a reward, but she has not been found. We left on the 14th for Paris Landing on the Tennesse River. We continued South on the Tennesse River to Cuba Landing, then Clifton Marina, and now at Aqua Marina in Iuka, TN. After this lengthy blog, I will try to blog each day. It happens tha I have a great connection here so I am attempting to catch up on the travel. I thank each of you for taking the time to read this blog, please keep in touch and email or call, we love to here from you. Eddie and Nancy, aboard Dream Fever.

October 16, 2010. Cuba Landing, Waverly TN to Clifton Marina, Clifton, TN. These are some of the sites we saw on the Tennesse River.

October 17, 2010. We got up this morning to go to Aqua Yacht Marina, the fog was beginning to lift. We have had some delays because of fog and in some cases when you also have Lock delays, it will make for a long day. You can also see from some of the pictures we are experiencing low water in the rivers, which causes concern with the draft on the boat. These pictures are a few shots of the ride from Clifton, TN to Iuka, MS on the Tennesse River.

October 18, 2010 Today we took time off the river to go to the Shiloh Battlefield and Museum. This was an unbeliveable loss of life for a single battle. 23,000 lives were lost North and South. Just these few pictures do not show the extensive 4,000 acre battlefield.
