Cooks Bend Anchorage to Demopolis Yacht Basin Alabama

November 2-3, 2010 Demopolis Yacht Basin, Alabama. As we traveled the Tennessee-Tombigbee waterway you can see all types of houses that were, houses that struggle to be, and houses that will be. Pictures of places we have seen will be throughout the blog. We also passed by the White Cliffs of Epes. Not sure of the history or why they were listed in the travel guide, but you will see those in this blog. We got into Demopolis Yacht Basin mid afternoon during a light shower. The marina was full and having to raft boats as much as 3 deep. We were tied to the dock, and High Spirits was tied to the side of us. This is referred to as rafting one boat to another. After getting settled in we went to the onsite resturant the New Orleans. Met by Elvis he was going to sing us a song, but someone had stolen his guitar. As we entered the walkway, we saw the spear fishing maidan. Not sure if she was spearing for fish or fishermen. Then she had to call off her pet gators. I explained we had come to eat, not be eaten. We finally got into the resturant and had a great meal.
The Next day at Demopolis Yacht Basin the 3rd of November, had to do chores. I had to change engine oil on the twins. I schedule the change of oil and filters every 200 hours, our boat has twin 3208 Turbo Charged Caterpillers and this will take all morning. Finished the oil and filter change about noon. Nancy, Ruth, and I got the loaner car from the marina and went to Walmarts for supplies, this took most of the afternoon. Later in the evening a Tow Boat came by the marina to change crews and we had requested a tour if possible. Wayne, Ruth, Nancy, and I got to tour the 4 story vessel. From the bridge at the top, to the galley, down to the engine room. The boat has 12 cyclinder diesel engines with 4,000 hp. Talked with the Captain, engineers, and cook, the boat has a crew of 7. After the tour we settled into the boat for dinner and evening movie, Captain Ron, it was going to be a cool and rainy night, end to another great day.
