Columbus MS to Cooks Bend Cut Off AL Anchorage

November 1, 2010 Columbus Marina, Alabama to Cook's Bend anchorage on the Tennessee-Tombigbee. Today we will only do 57 miles. We are not able to make the run of 118 miles to Demopolis Yacht Basin, so we will do a shorter trip and anchor for the evening. We are traveling with our Canadian friends Wayne and Ruth and we make a great team for anchoring and rafting our boats for a secure anchorage for the night. Shots below caught my eye, the great cabin, as they say location, location, location when buying a house, look at this corner lot. The next picture is a phone booth on the side of the river, maybe this is Supermans weekend get away. Believe it or not, this was the only part of the river I could get phone service on my Iphone. Maybe a tower was near by. We still see lots of commerical traffic on the river, the tug boats are actually referred to as tows. These will have as many as 3 barges wide and 15 barges long. 45 barges is a lot to navigate through some of the curves we have seen on the rivers. We completed 2 more locks today and our 57 miles, anchored and settled in for the evening. Storms are supposed to come in after midnight, so we will be up early and head for Demopolis at first light.
